John McCain Will Be the Next President

Hey... I'm as surprised as the rest of you. But when the final ballot comes down and I'm choosing between him and the other options... damn right, he looks pretty good. And I'm choking down massive amounts of crow just to make that observation.

How we get from the current Republican field confusion to Republican Nominee McCain? Let alone President McCain? Well that will be quite a story in itself. But I'm in Iowa at the moment. So... I guess I'm as much an on-the-spot correspondent as whatever Matt Lauer is relying upon. And no... this is not a joke. I'm seriously seeing this as the way things are coming down.

Huckabee seems to remain the main guy in this locale. So a basic reminder... I'm not predicting McCain to win Iowa. Just that less impressive thing called the Republican nomination.

And yes... to reiterate... I'm surprised. But I really do see that coming now, barring an event more jarring than the Bhutto assasination.

Good to see you are back! McCain is starting to look better on the second go around. My mom, who was supporting Guliani in spite of his pecadillos and his "moderate" views on social issues is now deciding between McCain and Romney. She'd previously discarded McCain for being the democrats favorite legislative co-author and Romney because she thought the Mormon thing would sink him outside of Michigan and Utah. We're now at the most electable, least objectionable candidate. It may well be McCain.

It gonna be Romney or Guliani. McCain will tank in SC, again! Iowa is a terrible state to go first, they love Huckabee.

You look like you're swilling down that merlot just before you whack us with your axe. But then, what else is new?
