Unofficial Idol theme of the week: let's get all the Idolateers beginning with the letter A out of the way first.

Allison Iraheta - Strong again. Gosh I like this girl. Much judge love. Will it be enough?
Anoop Desai - Sang it well but he's getting a bit boring, isn't he? I think he's about maxed out showing what he's about.
Adam Lambert - Screamy Adam is back doing classic power rock. Odd to say about him, but this was a pretty safe choice. Still has talent to burn.
Danny Gokey - I missed the glasses. And Lionel Richie? Mostly a standard Gokey power vocal. If you like Danny, you probably liked this.
Matt Giraud - About as good as Matt can sound given his box at first... and then he tried to "make it his own" and had problems.
Kris Allen - I'm on the fence about this one. It was good technically. But also kind of forgettable.
Lil Rounds - Bette Midler? I dug the gospel spin. But Bette Midler?! Best she's sounded in weeks. But Bette Midler?!!
Best of the week: Allison Iraheta
Bottom Three: Lil Rounds, Anoop Desai, Matt Giraud
Going Home: Anoop Desai
Sorry for the abbreviated comments this week. The full version should return next week.

Anoop - go home already
Adam - woohoo! There's a great example of taking a song the whole planet knows and making it sound new and different. He always seems to get the best light show, too.
Danny - I like Danny, but I was not wild about that one. Except for Allison and Adam, everybody did these slow goopy songs. They almost never work on this show. It wasn't anything special.
Matt - He started out on my Me Likee List, but he's been fading, and now, I wouldn't miss him all that much if he left.
Kris - I wasn't real crazy about this. Couldn't understand 34% of the words. I wouldn't be shocked if he were bottom two.
Lil - Ugh. It wasn't sung that well. I did like gospely RB twist to it. But, she then broke my number one rule, and that is don't talk back to the judges. Just smile and take your lumps. I don't like her anymore. Go home.
bottom two will probably be Anoop and Lil, just on the strength of the being the two least likeable people left.
The final four will be Adam, Allison, Danny, and Kris, so the order the next three leave in doesn't matter too much.
If you haven't been exposed to real criticism before, even constructive criticism, you can take it too personally. They're young, they work on a song, they want to blow people away, they want to make people to feel something, they finish and want to hear that praise, and when they get hammered, if they're not in control of their emotions they can let their emotions do the talking like Lil did.
When I first started in writing groups, learning to deal with criticism was difficult at first, until I learned it had to be about the writing. The goal is to make the writing better. Criticism isn't always right, but it's right more often than not, and regardless, it's valuable to hear a reader's honest reaction.
I admire most the idols who just take their lumps, who know the judging segment isn't about them, at all, and just listen to honest reactions.
